Geologists are scientific detectives who try to reveal the past and predict the future of the Earth, studying rocks, earthquakes, volcanoes and the landforms of the planet. Fossils are studied to help understand the evolution of life. Geologists also play a leading role in managing natural materials such as water supplies, energy resources and mineral deposits.
