This A Level syllabus demands an in-depth study in one main area, which can now include painting and related media or sculpture. AS Level Art and Design is suitable for students who wish to pursue, extend and develop their studies of Art and Design to a greater depth required for GCSE. AS Level is a qualification in its own right: normally completed in one year. Units of Work You will explore the work of many artists. Regular visits are made to local galleries and museums and, each year, we try to offer a residential trip to students. During the AS course you will work on one practical coursework unit. The unit begins with directed study to learn new techniques and approaches: students are then encouraged to develop more individual responses through the choices they make.
