Information and Communication Technology is increasingly used in every area of business. This BTEC course provides you with a high level of skill and understanding in ICT. The BTEC Extended Certificate ICT course combines taught theory lessons with practical assignments and project portfolio work. You will be taught new high-level ICT skills, and will need to investigate and display knowledge of how ICT is used in the outside world. You are usually given the freedom to design your own projects - enabling you to focus on your individual area of interest. Students who have taken this course have found the project work both challenging and interesting. The project format usually consists of writing a report, explaining how some aspect of ICT is used in industry, as well as practical work, where you design your own systems using applications software. As with all vocational courses, you will need to have both self-discipline and initiative, to be able to work independently and meet the deadlines provided. Units of Work: Projects are accessed in a variety of ways. You may be giving a presentation, writing a report, sending e-mails, or having a debate with your tutor. Assessments will be varied and mirror how you would apply those skills in the real world of IT. • Unit 1: Employability and Communication Skills for IT • Unit 2: Computer Systems • Unit 3: Information Systems The remaining units will be selected by your tutor. If this course is taken for only one year, you can be awarded the Certificate in IT.
