This course is for people who are looking forward to a career in any Public Service, for example the Police, Fire and Ambulance Services or Armed Forces. This is a two-year course and involves the study and production of six units to gain the National Award, and a further six units to gain the National Certificate. Some of the units covered include • Outdoor and Adventurous Expeditions • Team Development in Public Services • Team Leadership in the Uniformed Public Services • Physical Preparation and Fitness for the Uniformed Public Services Final grades are based on the assessment of written assignments, as well as practical work and expeditions. There are no written examinations involved. You can achieve a Pass, Merit or Distinction in this course. This course offers you the opportunity explore the work of the Public Services. Students have the opportunity to have contact with many serving Public Service workers; to participate in expeditions on Dartmoor; complete work experience; and interact with the Armed Forces and Civilian Services through organised visits.
