This course is a broad introduction to art and design. The Level 2 Award in Art & Design provides an opportunity for individuals who are intrigued by art and design to explore, develop and test their creativity within a simple course that will provide a sound base of skills and knowledge but will also build your confidence and show you the potential career and opportunities which could open up for you across the third most important sector of the UK economy. The qualifications have been designed for 16 - 18 year olds in the first instance. It is for students who are getting started with a full - time art and design experience. The course is intended to offer an alternative qualification for those young people who would otherwise be following a BTEC First Diploma programme. The qualification has been written flexibly to support a range of delivery options, so that the units focus on the underlying ideas and techniques. It shows you the fundamental principles of art and design practice, and deliberately avoids the complex and detailed ideas which surround art later on. The units introduce skills, knowledge and understanding in the early stages of the course and then require the student to apply these in a series of more exciting and original works.
