This course is also known as the IGCSE. It enables you to develop the reading, writing and research skills that you will need for successful study at level 3. The course is made up of 50% coursework and 50% examination. For the examination you will study a range of non - fiction texts and practise writing in a range of different genres.This is worth 50% of the final mark. For the coursework you will research a topic of your choice and produce one piece of writing in a particular genre (e.g. newspaper article, speech, letter) with a specific purpose. You will write a commentary on your own writing, justifying your choices of source material and language. This is worth 40% of the final mark. You will also give a presentation on your research. This task is worth 10% of the final mark.
