There are three areas of study : Solo recital - between 12 and 15 minutes. Although only one solo recital is required for the exam at ESAM you will also have several short performance opportunities during the year to help you prepare for the final recital. Understanding music You will study a range of set works that are certain to expand your musical horizons. Classroom listening and learning and written work is enhanced by trips to hear professional performances. Composition and Harmony In the second year students are able to compose another piece of their own to a brief set by the exam board . In addition they will extend the basic skills in harmony that they began on the AS course harmonising several phrases of a melody in the style of J.S.Bach.
