You will study how children acquire their first language of English and the development of the English Language over time. In Child Language Acquisition you will study the language and social development of children from 0 - 11 years, and analyse a variety of real - life written texts and transcripts of speech using the main linguistic frameworks. You will also study and apply theories of language acquisition. The topic of Language Change explores historical and contemporary changes in the English Language from Late Modern English (from 1700) to the present day, alongside explanations of their causes and impact. For your coursework you will choose an area of personal interest for language investigation in consultation with your teacher; the project will require you to use a variety of data - collection methods, make sense of data using relevant linguistic methods and techniques, evaluate and draw conclusions on the findings of the investigation, present findings in an appropriate and accessible manner and reference reading materials correctly.
