There are two modules at A Level: - Unit 3 = Texts and Genres, which is examined in June (chosen theme = Elements of the Gothic); - Unit 4 = Further and Independent Reading, which is a coursework module requiring the production of one piece of comparative coursework (comparing two texts - 1500 - 2000 words) and one piece applying a theoretical position to a text (1200 - 1500 words). You should be prepared to analyse and discuss a range of challenging texts, including Shakespeare, working either with the whole class, in small groups or independently. All assessment elements require you to write extended analytical essays.
