Dog Grooming Assistants, Level 2 Certificate

This course is ideal if you want to begin working in the dog grooming industry and if you want to learn the skills needed to work under supervision in a dog grooming salon. The qualification is suitable for school leavers leaving full time education or for adults looking for a change in career. The course aims to introduce students to the basics of dog grooming and consists of the following units including basic restraint, handling techniques, bathing, grooming, nail clipping and cleanliness. To earn this qualification, students must complete a range of mandatory and optional units to achieve a total credit value of 23 credits. 18 credits are achieved from the six mandatory units 1-6 plus a minimum of 5 credits from the optional units. The mandatory units are: • Prepare and groom dogs prior to bathing • Bathe and clean dogs • Clean and maintain equipment used for grooming or removing hair from animals • Control and restrain animals • Dry dogs and prepare their coats for styling • Basic trimming of a dog's coat The course offers a blend of theory, task-based learning, and practical workshops at college to underpin the skills and knowledge required to meet the assessment criteria. To achieve the L2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants students will be required to complete an on-line assessment, a range of practical demonstrations and written assignments. PROGRESSION This qualification could help you to find work as a dog groomer, assistant dog groomer or kennel assistant. Students can also progress onto the Level 3 Certificate in Introductory Dog Grooming, or the Level 2 Diploma in Animal Care.
