This hands on course will build on the content in the introduction to beekeeping course and allows practical application of this knowledge. Course content includes: * Types of Bees * Natural History of Bees * The Colony and how it functions * Equipment and care of bees * Types of hives, routine management * Bee plants and sources of nectar and pollen * Honey extraction * Bee diseases It is envisaged that it will be possible for groups of students to follow and monitor the progress of particular hives throughout the courses. As such, this course will run the the college apiary. Candidates can progress to other beekeeping courses: coupled with the Introduction to beekeeping course it gives a good grounding for those wishing to take the basic examination of the British Beekeepers Association.
