IMPROVE YOUR SEWING SKILLS

This course will enable you to understand and use a commercial dressmaking pattern to create a simple item of clothing. During this course you will learn how to understand and follow pattern markings and how to recognise grains on fabric. You will be given advice on choosing a simple pattern and appropriate fabric for your chosen project e.g. simple skirt or top. Your tutor will guide you through marking out cutting out tacking and sewing your individual sewing project. You will also be shown how to pin and fit your garment. Some sewing processes may be continued at your home. You will be shown how to make buttonholes insert zips put on a waistband and various hand sewing finishes to obtain a superior finish to your garment. Learners will continue with (or start) a portfolio of your individual sewing samples and written instruction for future reference. At the end of this 5 week course you will have:? created your own unique garment to add to your wardrobe. ? Extend knowledge in various sewing techniques ? Gain experience in following a commercial dressmaking pattern ? Complete an item of clothing and have the confidence to produce other items.
