WJEC Level 3 Qualifications in Criminology (QCF). You will study: 1 Changing Awareness of Crime The purpose of this unit is for learners to plan campaigns for change relating to crime. 2 Criminological Theories The purpose of this unit is for learners to apply their understanding of the public perceptions of crime and campaigns for change studied in Unit 1 with criminological theories to examine how both are used to set policy. 3 Crime Scene to Courtroom Through this unit, learners will develop the understanding and skills needed to examine information in order to review the justice of verdicts in criminal cases. 4 Crime and Punishment The purpose of this unit is for learners to develop skills in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the process of social control in delivering policy in practice The following units will be externally assessed: Unit 2: Criminological Theories Unit 4: Crime and Punishment Details of the external assessment are as follows: 90-minute examination The following units are internally assessed: Unit 1: Changing Awareness of Crime Unit 3: Crime Scene to Courtroom The following principles apply to the assessment of each internally assessed unit: Units are assessed through summative controlled assessment. All students without a GCSE at grade A*-C grade in English or Maths will be required, as a condition of the programme, to undertake either a GCSE or Functional Skills programme.You will be timetabled in college for four days each week. Hours will in general be from 08:45-16:30, however these may change if offsite activities are taking place. Activities may include visits to Portsmouth, Bournemouth and Winchester Universities and Hampshire Constabulary. This timetable allows plenty of time to complete your assessments and approximately seven hours per week will need to be put aside for independent study to complete assessments.
