The Upholstery course will afford students the opportunity to: learn about the traditional tools and materials used in upholstery; prepare pieces of furniture for re-upholstery; learning and carrying out the varying stages required to upholster or re-upholster an item. Students will gain the ability to restore a dilapidated item of furniture to its former condition. Our Improvers course gives students the opportunity to develop their skills further in a workshop environment with support from a tutor. A College Certificate will be awarded on request.The tutor will demonstrate frequently; students will then have plenty of time to practice the skills on their item. There is no formal assessment.This class introduces students to the art of Upholstery.

Entry requirements

The project you wish to work on, small enough to transport to and from class (e.g. stool, drop in seat). Tools will be required although some are provided. Tools needed include a pin hammer (hammer with a small head), old wide bladed screwdriver, mallet, sharp pair of dressmaking scissors, tape measure, pair of pinchers.
