Students have the opportunity to take Edexcel ESOL qualifications from E1 to Level 2 in all modes. Science and Maths are offered at GCSE and Functional Skills Entry Level. ICT is also offered at Functional Skills Entry Level and at Level 1 or 2 if appropriate. Students are supported in obtaining work experience in an area relevant to their intended progression and the programme includes work related activities. English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students are supported and encouraged to undertake voluntary work or part-time work which are excellent means of improving EnglishSubjects are taught using teacher input and other methods of interaction including group work, pair work as well as individual research. Learners will be offered half termly reviews. Students are expected to spend 18-20 hours per week in College. Formal assessment is by examination for all subjects but exam preparation is extensive.This programme provides preparation for study and training for work and/or academic study in the UK for non-native speakers of English aged 16-18. After completing Level 1 Skills for Living in the UK, previous students have continued at the College to study a wide range of subjects including Plumbing, Childcare, Electrical Engineering, Hair and Beauty, Travel and Tourism, Event Management, Computer Science, Business Administration and Motor Vehicle. Some learners have continued at the College and taken the Access programme before being accepted at university. Other students have progressed to university after completing Level 3 programmes. If you meet the age eligibility criteria, you can continue on a second year of the Skills for Living in the UK programme to gain a full suite of Level 2 qualifications. Other learners have gone straight into employment, having improved their English and gained some useful qualifications.
