Watercolour Painting - Beginners(Funded by Staffs County Council)

The course is for complete beginners or with little knowledge who would like to learn watercolour techniques. The course is for beginners and for those students who want to brush up on their painting skills. The course aims to give the student confidence in design skills, paint & textural mediums, including the ability to explore technical processes & ideas. Artists will be looked at to support the learning of technical processes, & mediums. The course will also cover handling of a range of materials - equipment, drawing skills, mark - making, texture, basic perspective (linear & colour), composition - design, tone, colour mixing, wash applications, including how to develop and build up a final drawing or painting.

Entry requirements

Watercolour Materials- (Materials required if wishing to do Watercolours) - Watercolour Paper (Bockingford, Saunders, or Daler - Rowney, Langton - Cold press - CP (known as 'Not') watercolour paper). This can be purchased loose or in pads. The paper needs to be 140lbs or 300gms and roughly A3 size. Paper less than this will cockle and will be unsuitable for application of washes - paint mediums - Brushes- (good quality brushes- Aqua Fine Range, Daler Rowney, Sceptre Gold, Pro - Art Series)- Round Brushes - Size- 12, 6, 2, Rigger Brush size 1 (has long brush hair) Flat Brush- ½ inch or size 20 - Watercolour (Tube Paints - Student Quality- Aqua Fine - Cotman range) Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna, Ultramarine. (Other colours will be discussed when needed).
