This is a good course for you if you enjoy learning through practical work, if you have a passion for the outdoors and want to work as a kennel assistant, pet shop assistant or cattery assistant. A typical working week will comprise of some classroom sessions and lots of practical animal care work. There will also be time to meet with your tutor and work on improving your Maths and English. Your tutor will encourage you to attend a voluntary animal care placement 1 day each week. You will learn about working safely, maintaining the health and well - being of animals, feeding and watering animals, transporting animals, maintaining tools and equipment, preparing and maintaining animal accommodation. In addition, you will learn skills that are required in any career choice, including health & safety, confidence building, social and practical skills, English and Maths.
