AS/A Level Performance Studies

UPDATED 20150903 13:13:20

The Performance Studies course has been taught by highly experienced lecturers since 1993. It develops practical skills in the individual disciplines of Drama, Dance and Music as well as combining these when you are able to create new and exciting performances in the style of Physical Theatre, Pantomime and the Musical. As well as performance and research skills the course allows you to develop team building and self-discipline skills. There are regular trips to the theatre to see a range of performance styles and an optional residential trip abroad to study aspects of the Performing Arts Industry in the 2nd Year. The grades consistently demonstrate the success of the course and the college students have been chosen to set the standard for both the practical and written paper units on three separate occasions. As a result it is popular with students wishing to pursue a career in performance or as a 3rd or 4th A Level option for those students who are hoping to go to university to study the more traditional subjects. There are 2 AS units and 2 A2 units. AS Unit 1: Creating Performance in Drama, Music and Dance. Unit 2: Performance Contexts 1. You will explore the work of playwrights, choreographers and composers. A2 Unit 3: Performance Contexts 2. You will investigate the style of Post Modernism in Drama, Music and Dance. Unit 4: Performance Project. You will devise work from a stimulus and perform a piece of repertoire in Drama, Music and/or Dance. Performance Studies This exciting course allows you to develop practical skills and knowledge in the areas of Dance, Drama and Music.
