Electronics has revolutionised our daily lives, it is a vital part of a huge variety of applications from medicine to the entertainment industry. Studying A level Electronics offers the opportunity to study the principles behind many of today's electronics products. You will learn the theory that underpins the operation of a wide range of applications from games consoles to washing machines. The course has a large practical element and you will have the opportunity to design and build your own electronic invention. An A level in Electronics is a valuable asset for those wishing to pursue a career or HE in many fields including Engineering, Computing and Physics. This course requires students to have a high level of Maths skills. It comprises of 2 examined modules and an assessed project each year. The AS modules are 'Introduction to Digital and Analogue systems' and 'Electronic Circuits and Components'. The first year coursework comprises of writing programs in order to control the operation of electronic circuits. The second year A2 modules are 'System Applications' and 'Communication Systems'. The coursework task for the second year is to write a major report on a complex circuit that you have built and tested. You can chose the circuit from a list or you can come up with your own idea. At the heart of the revolution in new technology, Electronics is a fascinating area to study and can lead to exciting career opportunities in such areas as Computing Networks and the Internet, Mobile Communications, Aerospace and Avionics, Medical Electronics, Robotics and Industrial Control. The course provides a thorough grounding in the principles of electronics and wide ranging practical work to support your learning and encourage your interest. Assessment is by a combination of written examinations.
