Carpentry and Joinery - Level 1

This course is designed for students who are interested in developing technical hand skills in carpentry and joinery. The course has a range of exciting content where you will have the opportunity to design cost market and sell your own products. You will make your own toolbox and be encouraged to buy your own quality tools. You will learn and practice a range of basic hand skills required for working with timber including the use of hand and power tools. Some learners from the course will be chosen to represent the college at local and national skills competitions.Tutors will support learners into dedicated work placements that will help you to develop your understanding of what the industry is about whilst preparing you for the world of work. The colleges excellent links with employers could open the door to employment with training in the form of an Apprenticeship. Health and safety is paramount within the industry and you will be trained in all aspects of this to ensure that you are kept safe throughout the programme.See below for bullet points of the main areas that you will study:-Technical drawing Design construct and sell your own timber based itemsMake your own toolboxA group project such as building counters bars and office furniture for the local communityAll students will either gain or enhance their existing English and Maths qualifications that will help them to progress to higher levels in the same or different trade areas. These skills are essential and there is a particularly common thread of mathematics that runs through all construction qualifications.
