Sociology is a contemporary and demanding subject. In Sociology we look at many different institutions within society; such as the education system, families, the mass media, religion and the criminal justice system and how these work together to maintain society as a whole. We consider social divisions within society and question whether there really is equality between different social groups, or whether institutions exist to maintain social inequality and social divisions. Students are encouraged to engage actively in lessons and to consider the strengths and limitations of different research, and are able to see the link between sociological research and the creation and implementation of government policies.
