Why study A-level Law? A robust legal system is the foundation of a fair society. If you feel strongly about concepts like justice and equality then you'll find this course very interesting. You might see yourself as a barrister, a solicitor, a legal executive or a legal secretary. Alternatively you might want to choose law because it's a fascinating course which will help you develop analytical and problem solving-skills. Whatever your vision, an A-level in law will enhance your university and career prospects. What topics will students cover in AS Law? At AS level students cover two units. Unit 1 provides an introduction to the English legal system, covering the basic principles of law making and dispute solving, such as parliamentary law making and the court system. Unit 2 looks at the concept of liability and students will begin to learn about contract law and criminal liability. Students enjoy all of the topics and begin to take a greater interest in reading the news and discussing politics. Units 1 and 2 also allow us to take students on visits to Courts and the House of Commons to deepen the knowledge learnt in the classroom. What topics will students cover in A2 Law? At A2 Students cover a further 2 units. Units 3 and 4 allow students to study criminal law and contract law in more detail. Students tend to find these units fascinating as they will learn all about murder, manslaughter, burglary, fraud, negligence and much more. What types of extra-curricular events occur in Law? We are spoilt for choice when it comes to extra-curricular events in law. Trips could include visits to Magistrates' and criminal courts to see the legal process in action and a visit to the House of Commons in London to see where laws are made. Outside speakers such as solicitors, judges and prison officers can come and share their expertise and experiences. For further information contact: Miss Stewart
