This course is aimed at learners who wish to improve on previously learned skills of drawing and painting the portrait. Beginning with pencil and charcoal studies the learners will then progress to using a range of varied materials. Working from the live model learners will be encouraged to explore individual approaches to portraiture with various working techniques. Line, form, structure, light and tone will be explored as well as painting techniques such as washes, gestural mark-making, glazing and texture. This course explores the use of various mediums, techniques and encourages group discussion and critical reflection. There will be an emphasis on the individual approach whilst working within the group dynamic.
