The BTEC Extended Diploma in Media Production covers a wide variety of activities which are designed to provide students with an understanding of the skills required to work in the Media Industry. Students study a number of practical and theoretical aspects of the media industry, including pre and post production as well as the actual practical processes of producing a media product such as a film animation, magazine or music video. The course is taught by industry professionals, with varying areas of expertise and specialisms, and benefits from incorporating knowledge of current industry technologies and trends. Lecturers have excellent industry connections and students benefit from guest lecturers from companies, such as Lime Pictures and the BBC, as well as freelance professionals working in camera operation, PR, journalism, radio, scripting and producing. The course introduces students to employment and provides a good basis to progress to a more advanced work-related qualification. Students on this course have completed work experience placements with companies such as Lime Pictures, Liverpool Echo and the MOBO Awards, as well as having the opportunity to work on live briefs written by professionals in the industry.
