French Advanced Conversation

UPDATED 20150819 10:25:54

By the end of the course you will have gained a good knowledge on a variety of chosen subjects and can enter unprepared into conversation about familiar topics. The course will help you to talk with more confidence and exchange information on different aspects (culture, politics, current affairs, etc.). A variety of class activities will be used including games, listening to audio clips, French songs and viewing of French films. For a better adaptation to the group, students should have completed a minimum of 3 years study of French or should visit a French speaking country regularly. Homework is on a voluntary basis and mostly aims at looking up information and/or vocabulary to prepare for a topic which will be discussed during the lesson afterwards. The students must bear in mind that language practice is the finality of the course: although most of them decide to attend a French course by love of French culture, it is not compulsory to have an exhaustive knowledge of it, and they are welcome to suggest any topic they like. By the end of the 30 week course (3 terms) you will have the opportunity to: Cope alone in a French-speaking country for essential tourist matters. Speak and exchange ideas spontaneously and clearly, if not fluently, about any familiar matter. Understand the main points of a conversation between native speakers regardless of the delivery of speech, but provided there aren't too many people speaking at a time. Be more familiar with the different registers of language, without necessarily being able to actually master them all.
