The course will begin with a brief history of the development of pen lettering and a demonstration of the basic techniques of calligraphy. You will practice the basic cursive (handwriting) and formal 'book hands' (alphabets) and be shown how to layout and space your work. Practical work will help you to develop a good style which can be used in a variety of small jobs such as greeting cards, invitations and small notices. Teaching Method: by demonstration, personal examples and individual tuition. Enrolments welcome throughout the year. By the end of the course you will have the opportunity to:Learn about the history of calligraphy. Gain practice in the basic cursive (hand writing). Gain practice in the formal 'book hands' (alphabets); be introduced to the layout of lettering. Understand the choice of suitable materials and equipment. Use the practical work undertaken to develop a good style which can be used in a variety of small jobs, such as greeting cards, invitations and small notices.
