Upholstery & Chair Caning Mixed

UPDATED 20150819 10:24:56

This workshop is suitable for beginners who have never done any upholstery or chair caning before, as well as those who are more experienced or in the middle of a project. The upholstery is taught using traditional methods. Students should provide their own piece of furniture, bearing in mind that they must be able to carry it to and from their car (with help). Small items such as dining room chairs, bedroom chairs or stools are suitable for beginners. Any repairs to the frame of the piece to be upholstered need to be done prior to starting. If you are a newcomer, you will need to talk to the tutor before removing upholstery or canework. Helen Simonds can be contacted by email: helen.john@talktalk.net. Alternatively, please contact the college for her telephone number. For those who wish to learn chair caning, a chair or stool with a flat seat is suitable for beginners, so that basic techniques can be learned before attempting more advanced work.
