Unit 1 - Global Challenges Topic 1: The world at risk – earthquakes. Tornadoes, pollution and global warming. Topic 2: Going global – the worldwide web, power of the multinational companies, changes in migration and health. Unit 2 - Geographical Investigations Topic 3: Extreme Weather – investigating the impacts of extreme weather hazards and how they are distributed around the world. Topic 4: Re-branding places – regeneration of rural and urban places focusing on a field visit to Stratford London. Skills and Activities • Field work – local and abroad – An environmental enquiry The course includes the opportunity to take part in a short residential field visit to Dorset for unit 2. The course provides you with a good skills base and knowledge of worldwide problems linking to many of the current political issues surrounding the modern world. • On-line homework and private study activities • Internet research • Teacher led discussions with support from interactive whiteboard and new texts • Debates on current environmental issues • Essay and report writing skills • Self and peer assessments • Watching DVDs and current affairs programmes
