The purpose of this level 1 qualification in practical horticultural skills is to provide learners, industry and other stakeholders with the fundamental skills required in horticulture. It is a flexible system with a wide range of units in discrete horticultural skills, that can be built up into a full qualification or accessed as individual units, and, as such, it meets the needs of learners from a wide range of abilities and backgrounds. The units cover a wide range of horticultural tasks and give great flexibility to the qualification. It is particularly suitable for entrants into all sectors of horticulture, including those who need to work up from lower levels and is suitable for anyone who requires training in fundamental practical horticulture skills. It has proved to be useful for entry into horticulture, leading on to higher qualifications.
