Topics covered in Year 12 (AS-Level) include the structure of the atom, chemical structure and bonding, organic and inorganic chemistry, analytical techniques, rates of reaction and equilibrium. Topics covered in Year 13 (A-Level) include acid-base equilibria, enthalpy cycles and entropy, redox and electrochemistry, the importance of transition metals and the application of organic chemistry. Students will need to have a thorough understanding of fundamental chemical ideas if they are to understand and access all parts of the course. There is, therefore an expectation that all students will read around topics covered in class and do as many practice questions as is required between lessons to ensure they are confident in expressing their knowledge under exam conditions.
