GCE A Level in Art and Design

UPDATED 20150930 09:39:57

Students choosing Art should have a genuine interest in responding to the world around them. Skills will be taught with particular emphasis on drawing and you will investigate sculpture, mixed media, printing, paint and digital art. Teaching and learning takes place in a lively, dynamic studio environment initially concentrating on practical skills in a variety of different materials and techniques. Students will then take responsibility for their own projects and will begin to generate highly personal and original art pieces. On entering your first year of study you are encouraged to take part in visits which are an integral aspect of the course using London galleries as a resource and travelling to experience Renaissance Italy in the Spring term. In your second year of study you are encouraged to take risks and think with some ambition. Greater emphasis will be on responding to the work of others and in turn developing your own style. Drawing continues to play a major role in all coursework and you are encouraged to attend life drawing classes. Visits to London galleries and Renaissance Italy will continue to play a major part in your artistic development.
