The programme provides basic training in a variety of construction skills for those seeking employment within the construction industry, providing a good understanding of several subject areas. The units that you will study within each module have been designed to provide a range of experience in order to enable a good feel for each subject area. All units have been tailored to meet typical experience demand within the industry, both on a building site and in a technical workshop. You will study a term, twelve weeks, in each module/subject; these being Bricklaying, Carpentry and Plastering and all completed through practical assessment. The Diploma has been specifically designed for young people with no previous experience or knowledge of craft skills. You should however be interested in all construction craft occupations such as bricklaying, carpentry and plastering in order to achieve the qualification (which will be required in order to progress onto higher levels). Many young learners see the Level 1 Diploma in Construction Skills as a stepping stone prior to embarking upon further study in the industry or onto an apprenticeship in a specific trade, as by the end of the programme candidates have had a sufficient level of experience in the different trade areas to enable a comprehensive decision as to progression preferences. The qualification is designed to be delivered almost completely in a workshop, carrying out practical tasks in each of the given disciplines, there will however be one session a week for theory work relating to the given module.
