Students study a wide popular music curriculum and have the opportunity to specialise in the fields of performance, music technology, recording and composition. This qualifications is validated by the University of the Arts,London, and is designed to meet the demands of the modern music industry. The qualification provides students with opportunities to explore their talent and test their creativity and ambition in a broad range of performing and production arts skills. This certificate will be awarded by UAL (which includes the prestigious colleges of Central St Martins, London College of Fashion, Chelsea College of Art and Design, Wimbledon College of Art and Camberwell College of Arts). Delivered by tutors who are active music practitioners students will encounter a wide range of themes relating to modern music practice, musical theatre, song writing, improvisation and singing. Working and developing as a musical ensemble is a key part of the course and skills are developed in performance techniques. The course introduces a practical approach to operating audio recording equipment, software, sound recording techniques and an understanding of acoustics. Students will also learn about musical styles and periods that influence modern musical practices. Performances will take place throughout the course at college and public venues. The qualification is equal to 3 'A' levels and students can achieve up to 420 UCAS points which means they can choose whether to go straight into employment or go into higher education first. The course is based in a purpose built facility equipped with specialist state of the art digital technology. Facilities include a recording studio linked to a control room with mixing facilities. The course suits those with a strong interest in music.
