The Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism will introduce you to the world of the Travel and Tourism Industry. The course will enable you to find out about this exciting, ever-expanding sector and will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to work either within the industry or to find employment within general business areas. Anyone who has a keen interest in the industry and wants to achieve the equivalent to 3 A-levels. The course assessment is based on course work, observation and practical tasks, which are relevant to the industry and the emphasis is on developing business skills and a wider knowledge of travel destinations. The course requires that you obtain 180 credits over two years, these being: Investigating the Travel and Tourism Sector. The Business of Travel and Tourism, The UK as a Destination, Customer Service in Travel and Tourism, Marketing Travel and Tourism Products and Services, Preparing for employment in the Travel and Tourism Industry, European destinations, Investigating the Cruise Industry, Working as a Holiday Representative, Events, Conferences and Exhibitions, Specialist Tourism, Work Experience in the Travel and Tourism Industry, Residential Study Visit, Special Interest Tourism, Tourism in Rural Areas, UK Visitor Attractions, Hospitality Operations in Travel and Tourism. The course includes visiting speakers, conferences, training days and numerous day visits as well as the opportunity to go on an overseas residential. In the past these have included trips to Egypt, Malta, San Francisco, Disneyland Paris, New York and a Mediterranean cruise. There are many visits including to the NEC, World Travel Market, Cardiff Bay, Cadbury World, Thorpe Park, London Tombs, London Eye, Go Ape, a Ghost Hunting and Residential trip.
