Develop further skills in creating botanical portraits in a detailed and accurate style. Improvers and Intermediates who wish to develop their skills further in botanical drawing and painting and also have some experience already of drawing and watercolour techniques. - To learn how to portray flowers and plants with aesthetic and artistic appeal, in a detailed and accurate style- To achieve this progressively through practical exercises, increasing observational drawing skills and application of watercolour techniques Practical demonstrations, individual tuition and student participation

Entry requirements

The course lessons will be supported by other resources such as factsheets. The tutor produces and prints these, which occasionally include colour and/ or A3 handouts, which are essential for some subjects. The termly cost for handouts is 3.00 per student, payable at the beginning of the course.(For the first 2 weeks we will be concentrating on drawing skills. Therefore if necessary, further advice can be given on the purchase of watercolour paints and brushes at the beginning of the course before purchase of such materials).Paint palette (a flat white china plate is ideal)Cotton rag or kitchen rollGraphite pencils - 2B, B, F, H, 2HPlastic eraserCartridge paper - for sketching and testing coloursHot-pressed watercolour paperWater pots x 2 (large jam jars with a wide opening are suitable)Drawing board to hold A3 sheet of paper and masking tape to hold paper downIn regard to watercolour paints and brushes - the quality of the materials you use will determine the resulting standard of Equipment required The course lessons will be supported by other resources such as factsheets.
