An opportunity to work on an item of soft furnishing, dressmaking or craft in a relaxed friendly group with plenty of professional guidance at every stage. Make that pair of curtains or that dress. Create that piece of patchwork. Learn a new skill in safe hands. Anyone wishing to make soft furnishing, dressmaking or craft. To enable students to extend their sewing skills. The objectives below will only be covered in relation to the individual task. -: Identify different weights of fabrics, and their suitability for different projects. -: Understand when and where to use different linings, interlinings and interfacings. -: Calculate quantities of plain and patterned fabric. -: Insert fastening i.e. zips, buttons, buttonholes, and ties laps and folds. -: Make edge finishes e.g. piping pleating, plaiting, scalloping and frilling. -: Deal with hems and mitres. -: Understand when and where to use commercially made tapes and trimmings.
