The Extended Diploma is a two year vocational course, equivalent to 3 A levels. Students will learn about the sports industry in-depth, developing practical skills and acquiring underpinning knowledge that will enable progression directly into further study or employment. There may be an opportunity for the Extended Diploma to be combined with A level study.The course consists of studying ten core units (plus nine additional, non-core, units);Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport is a unit where you explore the human body, its structure and how we use it to optimise performance in sport.The Physiology of Fitness builds upon the Principles of Anatomy and Physiology, looking at how exercise impacts upon the body in the short term, as well as looking at the long term benefits of exercise.Assessing Risk in Sport gives explicit awareness of the importance of risk assessment prior to and during sport. Students will look at the impact on the sports industry, as well as experience it themselves as coaches. This Unit is brought to life with field trips to Woodmill Activity Centre, analysing low rope climbing, archery and kayaking as dangerous activities!Fitness Training and Programming is insightful into fitness training sessions, how to design them, make them specific to their sport, and even get the chance to see how effective they are by completing a six week training programme. Previously, field trips to Club La Santa (Lanzarote) have enabled student's to experience a wide variety of training methods, including Yoga, Pilates and Ab Attack! Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise allows students to gain an understanding of different fitness tests, their importance in health and fitness monitoring, and how they compare to the elite performers of the sporting world.Sports Nutrition broadens the understanding of the vital role of nutrition in sport, how it differs to every day, healthy eating, and students even get to plan a two week diet plan in a sport of their c
