Themes in painting: art history

UPDATED 20150805 18:12:16

We will look at a range of recurring painting themes, some specific (eg Adoration of the Magi) others more general (e.g. artists' self-portraits). We will consider why these subjects were significant, what they tell us about individual artists and about developments in art generally.
