How The West Was Won: Herefordshire in the Dark Ages

This is the creation-story of Herefordshire as it emerged from the collapse of the Roman Empire and became a distinct 'tribal' area in the 7th century. Its subsequent attachment to Mercia and Wessex will be examined, as will its evolution as a fully fledged shire in 10th century. The 'Celtic twilight' illuminated.
