Decadent Poetry & Paintings

This course traces the rise and fall of decadence in the 19th Century. We begin with Baudelaire's flowers of evil and end with the fall of Oscar Wilde. In between we will assess symbolist painting, sample the delights of the Vienna Secession and explore the effects of absinthe. Includes case studies of Toulouse-Lautrec
