Poems for pleasure: William Blake & John Keats - brilliant and unique poets

UPDATED 20150805 17:19:10

Enjoy poems? Want to discover a greater range? Last time we investigated the 'Metaphysicals' (poets of 1600-1650ish) after a series of courses on 'modern' poems. Now we turn to the early 19thC, as poets rejected the classical models of the 18thC, and the formal 'rules' for writing verse; as human creativity became the most potent theme (think 'Dr Faustus' - 1808, 'Frankenstein' (1818), Blake's 'Tyger, Tyger' (1794), Keat's 'Odes' (1819). Keats' amazing letters reveal how fast he grew up and what sorts of experiences fed into his poems. It may be interesting to look in parallel between him and Shakespeare (!)
