This 10-week course will explore the rich and varied repertoire of Prokofiev and Shostakovich, these two giants of 20th century Russian/Soviet music; in particular, the music composed during the Stalinist years will be focussed upon, charting the fraught relationship between dictator and artist during these dangerous times.
