You can also explore a variety of decorative techniques, which are used in soft furnishing (applique, fabric painting, patchwork, quilting, embroidery). You will be shown how to use sewing and overlocking machines as well as a selection of other tools and equipment used in production of soft furnishings. For those who are interested in learning upholstery skills they will have an opportunity to learn how to upholster an item using modern methods (e.g. using foam filling) or discover the reward of re-upholstering a piece of furniture using traditional skills (e.g. webbing, applying springs, using horsehair or vegetable fibre) Some simple restoration work on the pieces of furniture could be undertaken e.g. cleaning, restoring woodwork or re-caning.
