UPDATED 20161004 10:51:52

The English GCSE syllabus is different from that studied in year 10 & 11. This course aims to raise your English grade to C or above. It is a one year course and is taught in both years 12 and 13. It has been designed to develop your knowledge and understanding of language and literature and to provide progression towards further study through a wide range of reading opportunities of both literary and non-literary texts, writing for a variety of purposes, as well as speaking and listening in a range of contexts for a variety of purposes. We will be following the GCSE English specification from AQA. A range of literary texts are studied such as: A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and The Merchant of Venice by Shakespeare. You will have the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to communicate with clarity and meaning both in writing and orally. Assessment will be based on one written paper and five controlled assessments. There is also a Speaking and Listening component to the course.
