The A Level Italian course provides students with an excellent general introduction to the key aspects of Italian language and culture. Language learning at Advanced Level is a process which involves not only the introduction of new material in the form of topics and grammar but also the constant consolidation of grammar in a range of contexts. It is this consolidation which enables language to become ‘embedded’. At AS/A2 level there is a big focus on the production of written and spoken language and students are not only required to develop opinions about a whole range of issues but must also be able to manipulate language skilfully in order to express these ideas clearly. This is where topics and grammar overlap with each other. An exchange with a partner school in Piácenza began in 2008 and it is intended that this will happen every two years. The next exchange to Italy is taking place during 2016-17.
