The aim of the course is to refine language skills and develop fluency. Course content and learning goals will be discussed at the first session, so that they can be tailored to the needs and interests of the group.Topics at the higher levels cover a wide range of subjects and may include the following: discussion of news and current affairs; films, plays, books, songs, humour; discovering regions of the world in which the language is spoken and their customs and traditions; learning how to deal with practical aspects of daily life overseas: travelling, working and retiring in the country. Different topics are covered each term. The topics covered at Stage 6 and above are similar in range to Stage 5. However, they will be discussed in greater depth and you will be expected to express yourself with greater clarity and a more nuanced use of language, as you progress through the Stages.Sessions are lively and varied and draw on a range of authentic sources from articles in the press, internet and TV to extend your reading and listening skills.
