Do you teach, or want to teach, literacy as a specialist subject or as part of your vocational specialism?  Would you like to explore strategies for effectively teaching literacy more fully and have an opportunity to explore theories and teaching and learning strategies specifically related to the teaching, learning and assessment of literacy in education and training?  Would you like a recognised qualification that evidences your specialist role in teaching?  This new Level 5 programme enables you to achieve a specialist qualification and will extend your knowledge and skills in the pedagogy of literacy teaching.  Awarded by City & Guilds, this one-year qualification has been developed for teachers who hold a generic teaching qualification or untrained teachers who have significant experience of teaching. You will study three modules at Level 5.  These are designed to extend your knowledge, understanding and skills related to the teaching, learning and assessment of literacy in education and training.  You will carry out investigations into teaching approaches and will analyse engagement, motivation and success in literacy teaching.  You will develop and reflect on your own professional practice in teaching literacy.  You will be observed in a developmental capacity during the course and will be involved in personal and professional action planning.
