In this course we will learn and apply some basic properties and techniques of painting. There will be an emphasis on oil painting but the techniques covered apply to other media also, so students may work in Acrylic and Alkyd (fast drying oil) as well. Watercolour is not advised on this course as most techniques will not apply to it. We will mainly work from simple Still Life set ups and students who wish can also bring along something fairly simple they want to paint. The course will cover properties of Paint and different mediums and techniques which may be used to achieve different effects and suit various styles. Techniques will include alla prima - direct surface painting and also glazing (building in layers). One painting may be worked on over several course periods. Outcome of Course A familiarity with working in Oils and other rich media paint, with some understanding of the different techniques available and how different mediums work with the paints.
