Every learner at Central Sussex College who is under 19 will undertake a personal Study Programme designed to develop them academically, practically and personally. Study Programmes contain 3 essential elements: Subject Course Vocational or chosen Academic subjects, usually studied for 12 16 hours a week. English and Maths Every learner will work towards Level 2 English and Maths (C grade equivalent). Learners who have achieved a Grade C will extend their English and Maths. 3E Our own brand of specific entrepreneurship, enterprise and employability training. You will have specific time in your timetable for each of the three elements above and you will be expected to attend all elements throughout the year. Study programmes are designed to help you meet your maximum potential and progress to the next level of study of into work. You will study the following periods of history which are all fascinating and significant both in terms of world and British history: a) Tudor history: concentrating largely on the reign of Henry VIII. Why did he divorce Catherine of Aragon? Was he a tyrannical leader or simply in need of some marriage guidance? Did he really want to change the religious beliefs of his people, or just get rid of the power of the Pope so he could marry Anne Boleyn? b) Germany in the 20th century: concentrating on the sort of country Germany was and the policies associated with their Imperial, Democratic and Totalitarian regimes. Hitler's rise to power and the impact of WWI and WWII are key issues we address. c) Civil Rights in America: we explore the struggle for equality in minority groups, looking particularly at the discrimination faced by African Americans. Why were they discriminated against and in what ways? How did they fight for equal rights and to what extent were they successful? How vital were Martin Luther King and...
