You will gain a nationally recognised qualification, which will prepare you for entry to the carpentry industry at an advance level. This course is ideal for young people who are not currently employed in the trade, as it will provide theoretical knowledge and practical skills to enable you access trade employment more easily, which can then lead to the NVQ programme. This course focuses on practical activity but includes some written theory and portfolio building, comprises of the 8 mandatory units: CSA-L1Core01 Health, safety and welfare in the construction and associated industries CSA-L3Core07 Analysing technical information, quantities and communication with others CSA-L3Core08 Analysing the construction industry and built environment CSA-L1Occ11 Prepare and use carpentry and joinery portable power tools CSA-L2Occ36 Carry out first fixing operations CSA-L2Occ37 Carry out second fixing operations CSA-L2Occ40 Set up and operate cutting and shaping machinery CSA-L3Occ117 Erect complex structural carcassing components CSA-L3Occ118 Install and maintain non-structural and structural components At this advanced level, working in our simulated site environment, you will learn a wide variety of practical skills (and theoretical knowledge) which will enable you to carry out complex operations on site and prepare you for entry to Site Management. Areas to cover include cut and pitched roofing, complex truss rafters, fitting complex staircases, complex second fixing, basic machine practice and maintenance of structures. There will be a number of theory assessments with a final practical assignment to complete the qualification. Course is approximately 40% theory, 60% practical.
